The NYFW Project offers a unique opportunity for students to integrate fashion design and business strategies, instigate self-discovery, and set future goals. In our next ExpTalk series, NYFW Program Director Javier Estebecorena and the program alumni Mika Shimmura (2019 NYFW F/W) will present a general overview of the program and how to build your own fashion brand. In addition, Mika and our Senior Admission Consultant Alison Guan will share insights on how to prepare a portfolio for a fashion major application.

Mika Shummura

BFA Fashion Design, Parsons School of Design (Expected Graduation: 2024)

Mika looked to blend current streetwear trends with the sophistication of haute-couture in her work for New York Fashion Week, putting an upscale spin on casual wear. Her designs are born from extensive research into her audience and the fashion industry, as well as her love of music, which often moves fluidly between styles – just like her pieces. Mika hopes to attend Parsons School of Design for Fashion Management in order to put her on a path to establishing her own brand. She currently studies at York House School (2019).

Javier Estebecorena is an award winning Fashion Designer who received international acclaim for his clothing brand HE (Hermanos Estebecorena) that operated globally for over 17 years producing innovative and functional design. Javier has over 20 years in Academia teaching design in Buenos Aires University, VCad and Lassalle Colleges; and Design Thinking Consultancy through in house programs and Executive MBA courses, working with public and private sector clients.
