The play "The Late Christopher Bean" will have its two premiere performances on October 13 at the Vancouver Playhouse. Following the successful performances of traditional Beijing People's Art Theatre (BPAT) dramas such as "Ruan Lingyu," "Sunrise," and "Thunderstorm," Vancouver Modern Drama Society (VMDS) is set to present another BPAT classic with significant contemporary relevance in response to the enthusiastic reception from the Chinese community and the deep affection of the audience.

"The Late Christopher Bean" inspired by the life of Van Gogh, tells the story of an unknown painter whose works sell for astronomical prices in London after his death, starkly contrasting with his life of poverty and misery. The play uses the dramatic unities of time, place, and action to vividly depict the greed and ugliness as well as the kindness and beauty of human nature through a three-act comedy and drama.

Founded and registered in 2016, VMDS was established by VMDS President and Artistic Director Iris Han, under the initiative of renowned BPAT performing artists Pu Cunxin, Feng Yuanzheng, and Liang Danni. As it approaches its eighth year, this young theater company upholds the teaching "first be a good person, then pursue artistry." With the support and guidance of BPAT veteran artists, VMDS remains committed to spreading classic Chinese drama overseas.

GAAC Green Apple Art Center is honored to collaborate with the Vancouver Modern Drama Society (VMDS) to create a fusion of culture, painting design, and performing arts. The theme of this cross-disciplinary art exhibition is "Into Their World." Our students, combining their understanding of Van Gogh's art with modern creative concepts, provide the public with spiritual value while redefining the diversity of art and establishing positive perspectives.

This exhibition emphasizes cross-disciplinary interaction and artistic outcome. It is both interactive and visually appealing, with students combining Van Gogh's classic works with creativity from different fields to produce a series of unique cross-disciplinary artworks. These works, along with their derivative products, will be sold in a charity auction, with all proceeds donated to BC Children's Hospital to provide more children with opportunities to experience art.

The exhibition encompasses cross-disciplinary integration in five major areas: Classical Studies, Trendy Items, Fashion, Lifestyle, and New Media, showcasing the convergence of Eastern and Western cultures and the fusion of innovation with tradition. We have invited senior artists and designers from these five areas to participate, promising not only a visual feast but also a cross-cultural and artistic exchange.

Cross-Disciplinary Areas:

Classical Studies / Collaborating Artist: Zhang Heng
Inspired by Van Gogh's ukiyo-e works and Chinese ink paintings, Zhang Heng creates pieces that blend Eastern and Western artistic characteristics, showcasing the combination of innovation and tradition.

Trendy Items / Art Collector: Carson
Carson merges Van Gogh's bold colors with modern street art, presenting unique insights and creativity in trend culture.

Fashion / HE Clothing Brand Founder: Javier
Javier combines contemporary fashion design elements with Van Gogh's colors and modern streamlined cuts, demonstrating keen insights into fashion trends.

Aesthetics / Renowned Architect and Red Dot Award-Winning Industrial Designer: Alan
Alan draws inspiration from daily life, integrating art with home design and everyday objects, exploring the practicality and aesthetics of art in life.

New Media / Canadian New Media Artist: Sammy
Sammy uses virtual reality, augmented reality, and other new media technologies to showcase the endless possibilities of art in the digital age and the integration of innovative technology.

Though Van Gogh's influence is subtly woven throughout, this art exhibition guides visitors step-by-step into the life of the artist, allowing them to understand the world within his paintings and the different methods of artistic expression. After the exhibition, visitors can enter the theater to empathize with the protagonist's story and life.
