Architecture: Translation from Drawing to Experience

Sundays, 1:30-3:30 pm PST (120 minutes)
11 Sessions

Transversing space is suitable for students who are interested in exploring the field of architecture and developing their portfolios. Students will get a thorough introduction to the design process in this ten-week, studio-based program. This workshop will introduce students to the design process. Students will use artwork and a word as modes of reference and interpretation for the design of an interior space within a given space. During the period of the workshop, students will understand how to extract elements from artworks and spatial qualities within it.

Learning Objectives:

-Understand the relationship between the two-dimensional and three-dimensional design

-Understand basic architecture drawings

-Learn to examine the work of from renowned artists like Mholy Nagy, and generate plan composition from the painting

About the Instructor

Jasmine Gao is an architectural designer at HDR in New York City, she received her Bachelor of Interior Design from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. She is an alumna of Harvard Graduate School of Design’s Design Discovery program and studied abroad at the Architecture Association School of Architecture in London, England. She works on healthcare, hospitality, and education related projects. Prior to this role, she was a designer at various architectural firms, including AECOM, Roula Architecture Association, and Morlen Sinoway Atelier. She also served as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Pennsylvania, and her work has been featured in PennDesign’s Processing Matters magazine.
